The December 26-28 Sightings
In late December 1980, multiple United States Air Force personnel stationed at RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge reported seeing strange illuminated objects falling into Rendlesham Forest. Security patrol airmen initially suspected a downed aircraft, but upon entering the woods, they encountered a glowing, metallic triangular craft emitting red and blue light patterns.
Staff Sergeant Jim Penniston approached the craft and physically touched its glass-like exterior, noting strange hieroglyphic symbols etched into its surface. He later transcribed a series of binary digits that he claimed were mentally communicated to him during physical contact.

Lt. Col. Charles Halt’s Official Memo
Deputy Base Commander Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt documented the events in an official memorandum sent to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD). Halt also carried a micro-cassette audio recorder during a second expedition into the woods on December 28, capturing real-time voice recordings of radiation meter spikes, strange beam weapons shining down from the sky, and moving star-like anomalies.
Radiation readings taken at three distinct ground indentations registered 0.1 milliroentgens per hour, significantly higher than background environmental levels. Broken tree branches and scorch marks on nearby bark provided physical evidence corroborating the airmen's eyewitness testimonies.
